In today’s ever-changing digitalized world, texting has become the new way of communicating, whether it’s with your family, friends, colleagues, boss, and even your recruiter.
In the modern-day recruiting world, the recruiters are now texting their prospects, and they are not the only ones. Hiring managers are using texting in the entire hiring process. Texting is being used to conduct reference checks, background checks, and interviews. So, make sure all your references are aware that they might get a text or a phone call from a prospective hiring manager, and that they are themselves familiar with texting responses.
There are real benefits in using text versus email in the recruiting and hiring process:
- Text messages are delivered immediately and directly to a device that most of us have with us at all times.
- A text can be sent from any location where there is a data connection, and there's no waiting for an email client software to get up and running.
- Text messages are typed out on a mobile phone keypad instead of on a full-sized keyboard, which encourages shorter messages that get to the point.
- Spam messages and group emails have to some extent diluted the impact of email. Messages sent over email can easily get lost or inadvertently filtered out of the inbox.
The increase of a digital workplace is taking over. Help yourself by forward thinking and become familiar with texting before it becomes the means of communicating, as email once did.
